Last Saturday, a perfect blue sky day, over 1450 young people
from all over Queensland (and two from Perth!) converged on the
church property to experience Shift 2011. For those that have not
seen what this looks like, picture… three extreme sports zones,
three stages, three food stalls, heaps of rides, a "girls only
room", the Christian Surfers Chill Zone... and then add heaps of
people.
Many hours of prayer had paved the way for both the school tour,
where 15 local high schools were visited, and for the actual event.
Through the evening JC rider Jim Bartle shared his testimony and
many young people responded to the Gospel message. It was my joy to
see two young ladies come forward who had received free tickets to
SHIFT earlier in the week at one of the high schools. Later in the
night a powerful video clip presented Luke's story and then Dave
Twigg shared how Jesus had 'set him free'. Over 100 young people
responded as Dave told them what God has done for them and cheers
went up from the crowd.
A huge thank you must be given to the SHIFT Volunteer Team that
consisted of over 270 people of all ages. Through the day and night
this team worked together to make this event a huge success and
most importantly a safe place for young people to attend. Many
thanks have been received from community parents for the way their
children were looked after. I would like to personally say thanks
to Matt for providing a huge amount of the promotional material, to
Kirsten who invested many hours of work, to our major sponsors
Nando's Carseldine, Home Ice Cream and Councillor Norm Wyndham, who
all contributed to the event remaining under budget, to Rob for
heading up production, to James who built and ran our webpage while
on holiday in Europe and the UK, and to those that coordinated
areas on the day.
We give God all the glory for this great day. Please pray for the
young people that responded throughout the evening as we follow
them up and seek to connect them with their local church.
What an awesome God we serve church!
Dan
